Joyce is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA). Joyce is also a licensed school counselor; she was part of the crisis team at her previous school, Wentworth Elementary, supporting children experiencing immediate distress. Joyce is very passionate about assisting young people in finding creative ways of coping, supporting differently abled children to find self-confidence, and creating a sense of community and belonging in her therapeutic environments. She received her Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in Social Sciences, and her Master’s in Counseling and Educational Development from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. In her master’s program she focused on childhood trauma and its effects on developmental growth, neurodivergent communication, and nonverbal therapeutic techniques.  

Joyce’s therapeutic work is grounded in a person-centered approach; she utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused and Play Therapy. Joyce has been a lifelong artist incorporating creative expression catering to each client’s needs. She’s provided immediate services for children with crisis intervention and de-escalation, Intermittent explosive disorder, borderline personality disorder, operational defiant disorder, ADHD, Autistic spectrum disorder, Suicidal Ideation, Non-Suicidal self-injury, Test and Social Anxiety, Depression, gender identity, and other transitional concerns.
