Katie is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (#S7867) who earned a Master in Arts in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel and obtained her Bachelor in Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston. She has specialty training in working with trauma and is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional from the International Association of Trauma Professionals. In addition, she is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (#5182) and EMDR Trained. Katie is also a National Certified Counselor and has been working in the mental health field since 2005.
Throughout the course of her career, Katie has provided mental health counseling in a variety of different settings. Currently, Katie’s focus is working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an outpatient setting. When working with children, Katie works to support parents and caregivers, such as enhancing positive parenting strategies, while maintaining the confidentiality of the child. Katie incorporates the use of various treatment modalities including Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Experiential and Expressive Art Techniques as well as Sandtray and Mindfulness. Katie specializes in working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, difficult transitions, behavioral concerns, ADHD, mood disorders, adoption and adverse childhood experiences (such as trauma, abuse, neglect). She has additional experience working with grief and loss and poor self-esteem and social skills.
Katie believes all individuals (children, teens and young adults) have the potential to successfully meet life’s day-to-day challenges. She strongly believes change and growth can occur when provided a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment. Katie utilizes a strength-based approach, assisting individuals in using the resources and strengths they bring to the table in combination with appropriate therapeutic interventions to reach their goals. Sessions focus on self-awareness, choice, problem solving, and setting goals for the present and future.
